Frenchman Bay

Video

Description

A clammer wearing shorts, mud boots and light blue gloves uses a seemingly rusted hoe wrapped in cloth to dig through mud that is light brown at the surface and darker underneath. The surface of the mud is littered in broken shells and small rocks. Green seaweed often frames the clammer’s area of focus. After flipping large chunks of mud, the clammer often breaks apart smaller chunks with their fingers in search of clams. They often pick up clams with their right hand, examine them for a few seconds, and either toss them in their metal roller or to the side if they are unsatisfactory. They gradually expand their digging area, moving around the clumps of seaweed. The clammer sometimes orients the hoe sideways to their body in order to traverse the mud. A house comes into view at the perimeter under a partly cloudy, hazy sky. Valleys of shallow water are created by the clammer that they sometimes set their roller in, as they periodically stand to scan the horizon around them.
