Mt. Desert Narrows

Video

Description

A clammer wearing blue rubber gloves and knee pads traverses a mudflat covered in clumps of seaweed with a tree line visible in the distance. They seem to be crouching or sitting as they dig as their knees are visible in the frame, taking rapid stabs at the mud that is grayish-brown at the surface and dark gray underneath. They are using a plastic white bucket to collect clams. A few times, the clammer orients the hoe sideways in both directions. The clammer moves leftwards on the flat, intermittently picking clams out with their left hand and tossing them into the bucket, and moving a large mass of seaweed to their left away from them. They move their bucket along with them as they expand their digging area. The clammer moves at a rapid pace, making quick turns of the mud and rarely pausing for more than a few seconds. Occasionally, the clammer moves large rocks aside and examine clams briefly before deciding whether or not to include them in their bucket. The bucket is full over the brim by the end of the episode.
